Top-Selling Used Cars in South Africa to Consider Before Buying
While the used car market remains vibrant, consumers must exercise caution when purchasing pre-owned vehicles. MasterDrive CEO Eugene Herbert emphasizes the importance of thorough inspections.
- Select reputable dealerships: Choose dealers with strong reputations supported by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These dealers ensure that their vehicles have undergone necessary checks.
- Examine tyres: Check the Tread Wear Indicator (TWI), which should be no less than 1.6mm. Look for signs of uneven wear or damage.
- Test the brakes: During a test drive, assess the brakes under various conditions. They should respond quickly and quietly.
- Inspect lights and signals: Ensure all lights and turn signals are operational and that headlight covers are clear.
- Review service history: A complete service history indicates whether essential maintenance has been performed.
- Check windows for damage: Look for chips or cracks that could impair visibility and structural integrity.
- Assess fluid levels: Low or discolored fluids may signal underlying issues.
- Inspect seatbelts and airbags: Check seatbelts for wear and ensure airbags are functioning properly, watching for any warning lights.
By following these guidelines, consumers can make informed choices when navigating the used car market in South Africa, ultimately leading to safer and more satisfying purchases.
